Nagpur University

The Nagpur University situated in Nagpur, Maharashtra is also called Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU). Named after Tukdoji Maharaj, the university’s history dates back to the times we didn’t even get our independence from the British Government. At that time the university had only 6 colleges’ affiliation to it and only about 927 students were studying in it. Since those times Nagpur University has been ever growing.

After about 40 years of its establishment the university got divided and some of its departments were shifted to the newly formed Amravati University. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has awarded it ‘A’ grade, making it authentically and publicly declared ‘among the good universities’.

The university has been expanding manifolds since its establishment by diversifying the range of subjects offered to the students to study. Nagpur University has incorporated the concept of e-learning to ensure its fast development. With the introduction of inter-disciplinary courses, students have now wider choice of subjects they want to study in the university. RTMNU has taken a noble step by introducing rural development programs in its curriculum to promote the literacy level in India.

As the disciplines of study have been increasing so has it library. Its library adds many academic journals and reference books every year. The Nagpur University has improved upon its teaching and infrastructure too by developing and strengthening all its departmental laboratories and method of teaching.

Nagpur University’s academic information

At present the Nagpur University has 36 Post Graduate Teaching Departments (PGTDs) and 3 constituent institutions. Around 350 colleges are affiliated to the Nagpur University, out of which140 are self financed and 160 are publicly funded colleges. The departments of RTMNU are spread in an enormous 327 acres in 7 campuses. The Nagpur University conducts regular programs in Photography, Clay modelling, Electronics, Carpentry and Painting.

Nagpur University offers a choice of a whooping total of 6 certificate courses, 15 diploma courses, 50 full time bachelor degree courses, 6 part time bachelor degree courses, 40 post graduate diploma courses, 116 post graduate degree courses and 1 PhD course.
